Functional Dry Needling
What is Dry Needling?
Functional dry needling is the use of solid monofilament needles to help reduce pain, improve tissue extensibility, and improve neuromuscular function.
For best results, I combine the dry needle placement with electrical stimulation, in order to “reset” or activate the neuromuscular circuit. All muscles require nerves to fire in order to produce force. Think of the nervous system as the electricity behind our movements. When we are injured or in pain, the system often starts malfunctioning. Neuromodulation, using e-stim and well placed needles, can help to “re-boot” the nerve and muscle relationship to fire more optimally.
The goal is to help you move, feel, and function better! Needling is most effective when followed up with corrective movement, progressive strengthening, and neuromotor retraining. I will almost always get you moving after needling, to reinforce the treatment effect. What better way to empower you than to guide you to move more freely after releasing dysfunctional, tight, or painful muscles?
